Step into 14th-century Visegrád every Saturday this fall and winter as the Renaissance Restaurant brings back the Visegrád Knight Games and Feast, one of the Danube Bend’s most exciting family programs. Book early and time-travel in style: guests are crowned king and queen from the audience, dressed in royal cloaks, then seated to judge a full-blooded tourney.

Medieval Spectacle

Members of the Order of Saint George ride in at the king’s command, showing off precision target skills and hand-to-hand combat with authentic weapons. Duels play out with gritty realism and a wink of humor, celebrating bravery and audacity. A royal hunting falcon takes flight to cap the show’s pageantry. At the finale, guests can handle and try medieval weapons under the knights’ guidance.

Feast Like Royalty

Dine before or after the performance at the Renaissance Restaurant. The set royal feast includes: creamy venison ragout soup with tarragon and onion potato dumplings; a platter of whole roasted turkey leg, honey-glazed pork ribs, panko-crumbed chicken fillet, roasted potato petals, chive mayo, honey-smoky sauce, and apple-braised cabbage; and an ice cream sundae. Drinks are not included.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with audience coronations, kid-safe humor, and hands-on weapon demos under supervision
+
Show offered in English (and German/Italian), so no Hungarian needed for the core experience
+
Easy day trip from Budapest to Visegrád; Danube Bend is a classic tourist route and reachable by bus, boat (in season), or car
+
Clear schedule with bundled show + feast makes planning simple, with good value pricing for a full afternoon
+
Medieval jousting and falconry are photogenic crowd-pleasers, comparable to popular castle shows in the UK/Spain but at lower cost
+
Location includes Solomon Tower rooftop visit—adds legit historic context and views
+
Big group flexibility (30+) means you can coordinate for family reunions or tour groups - You must register and pay via email through the restaurant, which can feel old-school and less convenient
Cons
Visegrád is known regionally, but far less famous internationally than Budapest or Prague’s big medieval shows
Winter dates are limited and organizers may change details, so tight itineraries risk disappointment
Public transport is fine but not seamless in winter; driving may be easier, and boats are typically seasonal
