Get your spot early for one of the Danube Bend’s most exciting family programs: the Visegrád Knight Games and Feast, running every Saturday through autumn in Visegrád. Hosted by the Renaissance Restaurant, the show whisks you straight back to the 14th century with steel, spectacle, and a feast fit for royalty.

Be Crowned, Cheer, and Duel (Almost)

Members of the Order of Saint George stage a dramatic tournament, recreating how knights fought for the favor of the king and queen in medieval Visegrád. Right at the start, the knights choose a king and a queen from the audience, robe and crown them, then parade in to prove their skills in archery and combat before the royal couple and guests. The duels are realistic, thrilling, and often funny, celebrating the courage and audacity of medieval warriors, with a royal hunting falcon taking flight to top it off. At the finale, guests can try out period weapons with the knights’ guidance.

Pros
+
Family-friendly setup with audience-picked “king and queen,” funny duels, falcon show, and a hands-on try-the-weapons finale
+
Clear schedule and a full afternoon plan bundled together (tower visit, tournament, then big feast), so it’s easy to plan a day trip
+
Multiple languages offered (Hungarian, German, English, Italian), so you can follow along without Hungarian
+
Good value for a themed show plus a hearty medieval-style meal at around $38 per adult, cheaper than many U.S. dinner-theater experiences
+
Visegrád and the Danube Bend are classic day-trip territory from Budapest, reachable by bus, boat (in season), or car in about an hour
+
Salamon Tower and the Renaissance Restaurant are legit local landmarks, giving the event a sense of place and history
+
Unique compared with standard city tours—live combat demo, falconry, and period weapons feel more authentic than many touristy medieval shows
Cons
Visegrád isn’t a globally famous name like Prague or Edinburgh, so many U.S. travelers may not recognize it or plan around it
Booking only via email with payment at the restaurant can feel old-school and uncertain compared with instant online ticketing
The feast is meaty and heavy; limited detail on vegetarian or allergy-friendly options
Public transport is doable but not seamless for first-timers; driving or timing a seasonal boat may be easier than juggling buses and schedules
