when: 2026. February 24., Tuesday

Step into 14th-century Visegrád every Saturday this season with Hungary’s one-of-a-kind knightly tournament at Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony) and a regal banquet at the Renaissance Restaurant. The Order of Saint George (Szent György Lovagrend) stages a spectacular show where warriors vie for the favor of a king and queen chosen from the audience—both are draped in royal capes and crowned before the contests begin.

At the king’s command, armored knights march in and prove their aim and dueling skills with authentic medieval weapons before the royal couple and their guests. The duels are thrilling, true to the period, and often laced with humor, honoring the boldness and audacity of medieval chivalry. A royal hunting falcon takes flight to heighten the atmosphere. After the show, guests can handle and try medieval weapons with guidance from the knights. Dining is available before or after at the Renaissance Restaurant.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe: audience-picked “king and queen,” humor, falcon show, and kids can try safe, guided medieval weapons
+
Easy schedule to plan around—every Saturday at noon, with a clear timeline from tower tour to feast
+
Great value for money by European standards, especially the tournament-only tickets
+
No Hungarian required: the experience is visual, interactive, and staff at tourist sites in Visegrád usually speak basic English
+
Location is close to Budapest (popular with foreign visitors) and scenic—Danube Bend views from Solomon Tower are a bonus
+
Feels unique versus typical castles: live combat demos, hands-on weapons, and a themed feast make it more immersive than many museum-style medieval shows
+
Reaching it is doable by public transport (train+bus or river boat in season) or rental car; parking is generally straightforward in Visegrád - Not a globally famous event; you may need to research logistics and book on-site rather than expect big-tour-operator support
Cons
English narration may be limited; jokes and historical briefings could be mostly in Hungarian
Public transport requires a transfer and a short walk; winter schedules/river boats may be limited, and driving can be slow on weekends
The feast is meat-heavy and beverages aren’t included, so picky eaters or those with dietary needs might find it less flexible than similar dinner shows in the US or UK
