Visegrád’s Knightly Games and Feast are back every Saturday this fall, dropping you straight into the 14th century with a full-contact tournament, falconry, and a king-and-queen coronation chosen from the crowd. Book early if you want in on one of the Danube Bend’s most addictive family outings, staged by the Renaissance Restaurant at the Palotaház. The guaranteed start time: Saturdays at noon.
How the day unfolds
12:00 kicks off at Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony) with a brisk historical briefing and a rooftop visit. At 12:30, the tournament roars to life by the tower, complete with a welcome drink of white wine or apple juice. The Order of Saint George (Szent György) rides out, bows and blades flashing, as they duel for royal favor just like they did in medieval Visegrád. Before the action, the knights crown a king and queen from the audience, cloak them, and seat them for the best view. Expect tight, realistic combat, the occasional wink of humor, and a royal hunting hawk soaring overhead. After the show, guests can try medieval weapons under a knight’s guidance.
Feast like royalty
At 1:30 p.m., the Renaissance Restaurant serves a royal banquet: creamy tarragon venison ragout soup with onion potato dumplings; whole roasted turkey drumstick, honey-glazed pork ribs, panko-crusted chicken breast, potato crisps, chive mayo, honey-smoky sauce, apple-braised cabbage; and an ice cream sundae. Drinks are not included.
