On September 4, 2025, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) Fashion Show returns as one of the biggest opening events of the autumn semester at the MOME Campus in Budapest (Budapest). This year’s show will feature over a hundred looks—more than ever before—showcasing projects that blend art and design disciplines. Get ready for an explosion of contemporary themes and deeply personal stories, as bachelor’s and master’s student works take to the catwalk one after another. While sustainability remains a key focus, this year’s spotlight shifts toward individuality, especially in the 2025 BA collections, all centered around the concept of “the island.”

Folklore, Climate, and Isolation Meet Next-Gen Fashion

What do folklore, climate protection, and isolation have to do with runway fashion? For members of Gen Z, what does fashion design even mean? And how are the traditional centers and peripheries of the fashion industry changing in the 21st century? This year’s MOME Fashion Show offers answers straight from the minds of the newest designers. Unconventional collections and unique side events provide insight into how fashion is being redefined by the latest creative thinking.

“The Island” – More Than Just a Theme

What happens when sustainability meets individuality, shaped by “the island” as a metaphor? Thanks to the curatorial work of celebrated industry professionals—Ildikó Kele (Kele Ildikó, head of the MA program) and Dóri Tomcsányi (instructor)—the show tackles these questions. BA program leader Annamária Simándi Kövér (Simándi Kövér Annamária) and her faculty guided students to build independent designer worlds, each reflecting a different layer of the island metaphor—whether isolation, freedom, autonomy, or inner refuge.

Building Worlds — From Safe Havens to New Traditions

This duality forms the backbone of the show: the island as a universe with its own rules, where young designers still enjoy protection but have the freedom to build their visual and professional identities. Master’s students explore tradition, personal stories, generational issues, hyper-personalization, and contemporary visual culture in their diploma pieces, blending them into something uniquely their own.

From the Margins to the Mainstream

Fashion legend Linda Loppa, international curator and advisor, will visit Budapest for a special lecture and roundtable titled “Fashion Worlds: From the Periphery to the Center.” The discussion will highlight the shifting geography of fashion—how the centers and frontiers of global fashion are changing, who is redrawing the global map, and what that means for the next generation.

Exhibition and Tickets

The show concludes with an exhibition of MOME diploma projects, curated by alumna and costume designer Csenge Vass. The exhibition runs from September 2 to 7 and is open to the public. The event is held at the iconic MOME campus at 9 Zugligeti Street (Zugligeti út 9). Seating is limited. Early bird tickets are $16, regular admission $18. Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.
