Christmas Week Highlights

December 20–26 brings Christmas programs citywide, setting the tone with lights, music, and winter ambiance. From December 22–28, it’s “Everyone on the Ice!” (Jégre mindenki!)—open skating at the Karos Promenade (Karos Korzó) ice rink, an invitation to lace up and glide through the season.

Snowy Thermal Nights

On December 27 and again on December 29, the Zalakaros Spa hosts the enchanting Snowy Bath Party (Havas Fürdőparty). Bathe outdoors as snow falls into steaming thermal pools, under twinkling lights and festive decor. A live concert from 17:00 by Decsi Brothers (Decsi Fivérek) keeps the mood warm. It’s billed as winter’s best experience—magical, cozy, unforgettable.

Star Magic on the Karos Promenade

From December 27–31, the Karos Promenade’s (Karos Korzó) “Star Magic” (Csillagvarázs) program stages nightly acts:
– December 27: 17:30 Laci Horváth (Horváth Laci); 18:30 Decsi Brothers (Decsi Fivérek)
– December 28: 18:00 DJ Bony
– December 29: 18:00 Rezsek–Hervai Duo
– December 30: 18:00 Pre–New Year’s Eve with DJ Czege
– December 31: 18:00 V.I.P. Dinner & Party (Grand Hall); 20:00 New Year’s Eve Party with DJ Rebell

Special Events and Registration

December 28 features an Evangelization event with Gergő Oláh organized by the Faith Church (Hit Gyülekezete) in the Promenade’s (Korzó) Grand Hall; registration required, first 250 guests admitted.

Ring In 2026

New Year’s Eve in Zalakaros promises one night, two parties. On the Event Square, DJ Rebell spins from 20:00 to 02:00. Inside the Event Hall, it’s an All-Inclusive New Year’s Eve Party (Szilveszteri Party) at the Karos Promenade (Karos Korzó). The message: let’s greet 2026 together—just as you’ve come to expect here, only a little differently.

Skates On Through January

The ice rink returns December 29–January 4, then weekly blocks January 5–11, 12–18, 19–25, and January 26–31. It’s a long winter stretch for every level of skater.

Concerts Into the New Year

January 2 brings TNT with Ákos Dobrády and Krisztián “Inti” Zuber. January 24 lights up with a Balkan Fanatik concert—expect high energy and cross-genre beats.

Winter Splash: Family Aquatic Fun

From December 25–January 31, Winter Splash (Téli Csobbanás) turns the spa into an animated kids’ wonderland. Daily schedules mix water aerobics, family aquafitness, mini-disco, balloon twisting, glitter tattoos, face painting, treasure hunts, candy searches, New Year lucky coin hunts, tug-of-war, limbo shows, and craft hours like clothespin tree candles, door wreaths, and party hats. Key time slots include 10:00–17:00 windows with rotating activities; on December 25 and 26, focused water workouts and creative sessions; December 27–31 expand into full family programs, with 17:00 finishes.

Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Pros
+
Family-friendly to the max: ice rink, kids’ crafts, mini-disco, treasure hunts, and gentle water fun keep all ages busy
+
Thermal “snowy bath party” is a bucket-list winter experience you won’t get in many U.S. spa towns
+
Music variety nearly every night (DJs, bands, concerts) means there’s always something to do after dark
+
Zalakaros is a compact spa town, so venues (Promenade, Event Hall, spa) are close together and easy to hop between
+
No Hungarian needed for most activities; music, skating, and baths are universal and staff in tourist areas usually speak some English
+
Easy enough to reach by car from Budapest or Lake Balaton; plenty of on-site parking in a resort town
+
Stacks up well against European winter spa destinations—think Iceland’s Blue Lagoon vibes but with more family activities and a lower price tag
Cons
Zalakaros isn’t widely known to U.S. travelers, so you’ll need to research logistics and lodging more than for Budapest or Prague
Public transport from Budapest requires a train/bus combo; not as seamless as big-city events
Some event details (registration, time changes) may be posted in Hungarian first, so staying updated can be tricky
If you’re chasing world-famous New Year’s scenes, this is cozier and smaller-scale than Vienna, Prague, or Times Square vibes
