Zalakaros is glowing for winter: lights are up, the ice gleams, and the slip-and-giggle season is on at the Karos Corso (Karos Korzó). The giant rink covers about 8,611 square feet, with a 115×75 foot skating surface. Come as a pro or a first-timer, in a glittery hat, a Christmas sweater, or with the “I’m just watching” look—you’ll still end up doing a lap. Hot drinks are on the way, the lights are coming up, and we can’t wait to see you.
Opening hours
Mon–Thu 14:00–20:00; Fri 14:00–21:00; Sat 10:00–21:00; Sun 10:00–20:00. Open until January 31, 2026. The rink closes for maintenance (about 20 minutes, 2–3 times daily). Use at your own risk.
Tickets and rentals
No time limit on day tickets. Child (up to 6): $4.17. Student/Senior: $5.56. Adult: $6.94. Skate rental (EU sizes 25–47): $5.56 per pair for 2–3 hours. Penguin skate aid: $4.17/hour (+$2.78 deposit).
Extras
Advent vibes, family programs, and big concerts light up the Karos Corso (Karos Korzó). Rink rental for events, birthdays, sports, or company parties: $138.89/hour. Come play hockey: sign-ups for kids 4–14, January 26–31, 2026, in Zalakaros.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with penguin skate aids, kid hockey sign-ups, and low child pricing, so easy fun for all ages
+
Super affordable by U.S. standards: sub-$7 adult tickets and cheap rentals with no time limit make it great value
+
Minimal language stress: staff at a touristy Hungarian spa town usually manage basic English, and skating needs little explanation
+
Easy to reach by car with plentiful parking typical of spa towns; doable by public transport via Budapest–Nagykanizsa trains/buses plus a short local ride
+
Open long hours daily through Jan 31, 2026, with festive lights and concerts that add to the winter atmosphere
+
Good for first-timers and mixed-skill groups thanks to rentals (EU sizes 25–47) and aids, so no one feels left out
+
Compared with U.S. pop-up rinks, it’s cheaper and less crowded than big-city venues, with cozy Advent market vibes rather than commercial glitz
Cons
–
Zalakaros isn’t internationally famous, so it lacks the “bucket list” cachet of Vienna or Budapest holiday rinks
–
Public transit from Budapest takes time (3–4+ hours with connections), which may be a hassle for short trips
–
Maintenance breaks 2–3 times a day can interrupt your session, and “use at your own risk” means limited on-ice supervision
–
Less spectacle than iconic rinks (e.g., NYC Rockefeller, Vienna Rathausplatz), so come for chill local fun, not landmark photos
