Zalakaros Lights Up With Winter Fests And Icy Fun

Celebrate winter in Zalakaros with ice discos, live concerts, Advent charm, and spa adventures. Family-friendly festivals, wellness, and New Year’s parties light up December–January in this Hungarian spa town.
when: 2025.12.15., Monday - 2025.12.21., Sunday

Zalakaros rolls into the holidays with a packed week of culture, wellness, music, and outdoor fun from December 15 to 21, 2025—then keeps the party going through January. The spa town’s mix includes exhibitions, concerts, theater, film, festivals, healing and adventure baths, sports events, and a heap of guaranteed and optional leisure programs. The area is also prime for hikes and short trips within and beyond the town limits.

Skate nights and live beats

From December 15 to 21, and again December 22 to 28, lace up for Jégre mindenki! (“Everyone on the Ice!”) at the Karos Korzó ice rink. DJ JanjerBoy turns the rink into a Jégdiszkó on December 19 from 18:00 to 21:00. The groove continues later with Csillagvarázs at the Karos Korzó, running December 27–31: Laci Horváth (December 27, 17:30), Decsi Brothers (Decsi Fivérek) (December 27, 18:30), DJ Bony (December 28, 18:00), Rezsek–Hervai Duo (December 29, 18:00), DJ Czege with a Pre–New Year’s Eve warm-up (Előszilveszter) (December 30, 18:00), then New Year’s Eve brings a V.I.P. Dinner & Party in the Grand Hall at 18:00 and a New Year’s Eve Party (Szilveszteri Party) with DJ Rebell at 20:00.

Advent and Christmas spirit

Advent programs run December 18–21. The lineup: December 19, 18:00–21:00 Ice Disco (Jégdiszkó) with DJ JanjerBoy; December 20, 17:30 Szilvia Agárdi’s Christmas concert followed by the Karos Wind Ensemble (Karos Fúvósegyüttes) at 18:30; December 21 at 17:00 candle lighting with Reformed pastor Tamás Csősz, then at 18:00 Karos Little Christmas (Karosi Kis Karácsony) featuring the Orff Percussion Ensemble (Orff Ütőegyüttes). Christmas celebrations continue with dedicated holiday programs December 20–26, and on December 21 the Orff Percussion Ensemble returns with another Christmas show.

Wellness with a winter twist

The Zalakaros Spa (Zalakarosi Fürdő) dives into Winter Splash (Téli Csobbanás)—an animation-filled water Fairy World—December 20–23. Each day offers 10:30–10:50 aquafitness and 15:30–15:50 aquafitness, with 12:00–14:30 creative sessions: Polar Bear Mosaic (Dec 20), Reindeer stencil printing (Dec 21), Stick figures (Dec 22), and Candle holder crafts (Dec 23). The Snowy Bath Party (Havas Fürdőparty) returns December 23, 27, and 29: think steaming outdoor thermal pools under snowfall, cozy lights, festive decor, and a live concert by the Decsi Brothers from 17:00.

Water fun through New Year’s

From December 25 to January 31, Winter Splash (Téli Csobbanás) continues with daily water workouts and creative corners. Highlights include: Dec 25 clothespin candle ornaments (12:00–14:30), Dec 26 door wreath crafts, and kid-favorite activity blocks Dec 27–30—Ball Adventures and treasure fishing, family aquafitness, games like Hit it! Fill it up! (Találd el! Töltsd tele!), glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, face painting, water mini discos, tug-of-war and limbo shows, and a New Year’s lucky coin hunt (Dec 30, 12:00–12:30). On December 31, it’s aquafitness from 10:30–10:50, a creative New Year’s party hat session from noon to 14:30, and more aquafitness in the afternoon.

New Year’s Eve: two parties, one night

Ring in 2026 at New Year’s Eve in Zalakaros (Szilveszter Zalakaroson) — One Night, Two Parties! (Egy éjszaka – két buli!). The outdoor event square runs 20:00–02:00 with DJ Rebell, while inside, the Karos Korzó hosts an All-Inclusive New Year’s Party. Expect the town’s signature spin on year-end—familiar, but a little different.

January lineup keeps rolling

Skating weeks return December 29–January 4, January 5–11, January 12–18, January 19–25, and January 26–31 at Karos Korzó. Live shows include TNT with Ákos Dobrády and Krisztián “Inti” Zuber of TNT on January 2, and a Balkan Fanatik concert on January 24.

Pros
+
Packed, family-friendly mix: ice skating, kids’ crafts, water mini discos, and concerts mean everyone—from toddlers to teens to grandparents—has something to do
+
Wellness twist is legit unique: soaking in outdoor thermal pools while it snows is a bucket-list winter spa experience you won’t get in most U.S. towns
+
No Hungarian required for enjoyment; concerts, skating, and spa activities are easy to navigate, and tourist staff in spa towns usually speak some English
+
Easy to plan a full week: activities run daily from mid-December through January, so you can drop in without matching a single fixed festival date
+
Public transport workable: fly into Budapest or Vienna, then train/bus to Nagykanizsa and a short local bus/taxi to Zalakaros; driving from Budapest is straightforward on good highways
+
Costs are typically lower than similar European spa-towns or U.S. resort towns, so you get lots of activities for the money
+
Comparably distinctive: similar vibe to Austrian/German spa-and-skate Christmas towns, but more intimate and less tourist-slammed than, say, Salzburg or Baden-Baden
Cons
Zalakaros and its artists aren’t internationally famous, so it won’t have the “must-see” cachet of Budapest Christmas markets or Prague ice rinks
Location is lesser-known to foreign visitors; you’ll explain to friends it’s near Lake Balaton/Nagykanizsa, not a headline destination
Without a car, connections can be slow, and evening returns are limited—families may prefer to rent a car for flexibility
Schedule is busy and changes are reserved by organizers, so last-minute shifts can affect a tightly planned day
