when: 2025.12.27., Saturday - 2025.12.31., Wednesday

A winter break in Zalakaros comes loaded with thermal bliss, ice, music, and family fun. From December 27 to New Year’s Eve, the spa town spreads its festivities across multiple venues with concerts, parties, skating, and a packed kids’ program—plus plenty of chances to soak in hot, steamy pools while snowflakes fall.

Snowy Spa Magic

December 29 brings the Snowy Bath Party (Havas Fürdőparty) at Zalakaros Spa (Zalakarosi Fürdő): a wintry night of outdoor bathing in steaming thermal water under lights and holiday décor. Expect a festive vibe and an outdoor concert by the Decsi Brothers (Decsi Fivérek) from 17:00. The promise? “The best experience of winter,” as you float in warm pools while it snows.

Ice, Ice, Zalakaros

Lace up for Everyone on the Ice! (Jégre mindenki!). Skating takes over the Karos Promenade (Karos Korzó) rink December 29–January 4, then returns January 5–11, 12–18, 19–25, and 26–31. It’s the season’s recurring crowd-pleaser for all ages.

Two Parties, One Night

New Year’s Eve in Zalakaros doubles down: one night, two parties. At the Event Square (Rendezvénytér), DJ Rebell spins from 20:00 to 02:00. Next door in the Event Hall (Rendezvényterem) at Karos Promenade (Karos Korzó), the All-Inclusive New Year’s Party keeps the energy high. “Let’s welcome 2026… a little differently,” the hosts tease.

Family Splash Zone

Winter Splash (Téli Csobbanás) turns December 27–31 into a water-park storyland. Daily lineups feature ball hunts, treasure dives, silly family aqua fitness, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, face painting, mini disco, water tug-of-war and limbo, water balloon and squirt-gun battles, plus seasonal quests like salon-candy searches and New Year’s lucky-coin hunts. On December 31 it pares back to water workouts at 10:30 and 15:30, and Creative Minutes for DIY New Year’s party hats from 12:00–14:30.

Live Beats on the Promenade

Starlight Magic (Csillagvarázs) at Karos Promenade (Karos Korzó) lights up evenings: Laci Horváth (Horváth Laci) (Dec 27, 17:30), DJ Bony (Dec 28, 18:00), the Rezsek–Hervai Duo (Dec 29, 18:00), DJ Czege’s pre-NYE set (Dec 30, 18:00), and on Dec 31 a V.I.P. Dinner & Party in the Grand Hall at 18:00, followed by DJ Rebell’s NYE Party at 20:00.

New Year Rollout

January 1 at 16:00: the Mayor’s New Year’s greeting. January 2: TNT perform with Ákos Dobrády (Dobrády Ákos) and Krisztián “Inti” Zuber (TNT Inti Zuber Krisztián). January 3: Krampus parade. January 9–10: Alpine Hut Party vibes. January 24: Balkan Fanatik in concert. January 31: Men’s Day Charity Ball.

Pros
+
Packed with kid-friendly activities (skating, treasure dives, glitter tattoos, mini disco) so families won’t run out of things to do
+
Thermal spa nights in the snow are a unique, cozy winter experience you won’t easily find in the U.S.
+
Multiple concerts and NYE parties give adults options, from DJ sets to all‑inclusive celebrations
+
The schedule runs for days, so you can time a visit between Dec 27–Jan 1 without FOMO
+
Zalakaros is a known Hungarian spa town, so it’s tourist-ready even if it’s not a global hotspot
+
You can get by in English at the spa and tourist venues; signage and staff usually handle basics
+
Driving from Budapest or Balaton is straightforward, and regional buses reach Zalakaros; once there, venues are walkable - The acts (Decsi Brothers, TNT, Balkan Fanatik) are local names, so international recognition is low
Cons
Zalakaros isn’t as famous to foreign visitors as Budapest or Lake Balaton, so it takes extra planning
Hungarian helps for schedules, announcements, and kids’ games; English may be patchy at smaller events
Compared with big-city NYE spectacles (Vienna, Prague, NYC), it’s cozier and cheaper but less grand and less late‑night transit options
