when: 2025.12.22., Monday - 2025.12.28., Sunday

Zalakaros goes big for year’s end, blending steamy thermal escapes with frosty fun, live music, family activities, and all-night parties across multiple venues from December 22 to January 31. The spa town’s cultural, culinary, and bath programs run year-round, with exhibitions, concerts, theater, film screenings, festivals, medical and adventure baths, sports, and plenty of guaranteed and optional leisure options. Beyond the town, hiking trails invite winter wanderers too.

Snowy Spa Nights

December 27 and 29 bring the magical Snow Bath Party (Havas Fürdőparty) to Zalakaros Spa (Zalakarosi Fürdő), where snowfall meets steaming outdoor pools and festive lights. Expect hot thermal water, cozy décor, and a dreamy winter scene. On December 29, the Decsi Brothers (Decsi Fivérek) perform live from 17:00. It’s a postcard moment: bathing outdoors while flakes drift down.

Star Magic on the Promenade

Star Magic (Csillagvarázs) lights up the Karos Promenade (Karos Korzó) December 27–31 with nightly music:
– Dec 27, 17:30: Laci Horváth (Horváth Laci)
– Dec 28, 18:00: DJ Bony
– Dec 29, 18:00: Rezsek–Hervai Duo
– Dec 30, 18:00: Pre–New Year’s Eve with DJ Czege (Előszilveszter)
– Dec 31: 18:00 V.I.P. Dinner & Party (Grand Hall), 20:00 New Year’s Party with DJ Rebell

Winter Splash: Kids’ Activities

From December 27–31, Winter Splash (Téli Csobbanás) turns the pools into a water-world of games and crafts. Daily sessions mix ball adventures, treasure hunts, family aquafitness, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, mini discos, face painting, and New Year-themed surprises. Highlights include water bomb and water gun battles (Dec 29), tug-of-war and a limbo show plus a Lucky Coin Hunt (Dec 30), and New Year’s party-hat crafting with water gymnastics on Dec 31 (10:30 and 15:30).

Ice, Faith, and Two Parties

The Karos Promenade ice rink opens Dec 22–28, then again Dec 29–Jan 4, plus weekly blocks Jan 5–11, 12–18, 19–25, and 26–31. On Dec 28, an evangelization event with Gergő Oláh by the Faith Church (Hit Gyülekezete) welcomes the first 250 registered guests in the Promenade Grand Hall.

New Year’s Eve Blowout

December 31: One night, two parties. The outdoor Event Square runs 20:00–02:00 with DJ Rebell, while the Event Hall hosts an all-inclusive New Year’s Party at the Karos Promenade. Ring in 2026 the town’s way: familiar, but with a twist.

January Keeps Rolling

Jan 1 at 16:00: the Mayor’s New Year’s greeting. Jan 2: TNT with Ákos Dobrády and Krisztián “Inti” Zuber. Jan 3: Krampus Parade. Jan 9–10: Alpine Hut Party. Jan 24: Balkan Fanatik concert. Jan 31: Men’s Day Charity Ball. Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Pros
+
Great for families: kid-focused Winter Splash with crafts, mini discos, treasure hunts, and gentle pools means easy fun for all ages
+
Internationally friendly concept: thermal spa + winter lights + ice rink is a universal crowd-pleaser even if you’ve never heard of Zalakaros
+
Location has growing name recognition among spa lovers, and it’s near Lake Balaton—a landmark many U.S. visitors know
+
No Hungarian required: signage at major venues and simple activities make it easy to get by with English, plus music/parties are language-light
+
Easy to reach by car from Budapest or Vienna airports; highways are good, winter driving is manageable with standard precautions
+
Public transport workable: train or bus to Nagykanizsa/Zalakaros with local transfers; once in town, venues cluster around the spa and promenade
+
Stacks up well vs. European winter spa towns: cheaper than Austria/Switzerland, cozier than big-city NYE, and you can actually soak while it snows
Cons
Less famous internationally than Budapest baths or Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, so friends back home may say “Where?”
English depth varies; complex things (medical spa services, event fine print) may need Google Translate or a helpful local
Night parties skew loud; if you want a quiet retreat, NYE weekend could feel crowded and clubby
Getting there takes time: roughly 2.5–3 hours from Budapest, and transfers with luggage can be fiddly compared to a single-city celebration
