Once a month, from March to November, early risers flock to the vibrant Dunaföldvár National Animal and Flea Market. Every third Sunday, the fairground at Lower Lake (Alsó tó) transforms into a lively marketplace, filled with the unmistakable scent of hay and bargains at every turn. The 2025 season kicks off on November 16 and continues its tradition into 2026, attracting everyone from farmers and families to folk artists and collectors searching for rare treasures.
Flea Market and Animal Market Hours
If you want to score the best deals or the freshest livestock, set your alarm: both the flea market and animal market open at 5:00 AM. The flea market buzzes until 2:00 PM, while animal sales finish by 11:00 AM. The weekly market (piac) and the dedicated animal market sections also operate during this early window from 5:00–11:00 AM. You’ll need to move fast—the best products and livestock may be gone before breakfast.
Who Sells What?
Dunaföldvár’s market isn’t just for farmers and family-run producers (though they turn out in large numbers). Expect to see folk artists, craftsmen, painters, and ceramists at their stalls, offering everything from intricate handicrafts to edible goods. Some are regulars with annual leases, while others pay a daily fee for a spot and parking. Sellers with a lease are required to have valid registration and business paperwork to participate—even artists and crafters must handle the paperwork.
Stall Rules and Seller Logistics
Permitted sellers fall into two categories: those with annual leases and casual, one-day vendors. Leased vendors must have completed registration forms (submitted through the civic portal), proper business or producer identification (such as FELIR numbers and NÉBIH permits for farmers), and proof of paid annual rent. Casual vendors simply pay a fixed spot and parking fee on market day.
Each vendor may lease up to 12 designated sales units per year, with a maximum of 4 adjoining units, and may do so at no more than three different areas of the market. Trading or reselling your leased pitches is not allowed—if you break the rules, you forfeit your spot without a refund.
Local Dunaföldvár producers, families, and sole traders receive a deal: just 75% of the regular spot fee, provided you can show proof of address.
