Craving an active getaway? Head to Lake Balaton (Balaton) and discover Révfülöp, a charming town famous for its swim festival, but increasingly beloved by cyclists as well. Located on the northern shore, Révfülöp is the perfect launchpad for exploring the region’s most beautiful areas: Badacsony, Szigliget, Tapolca, and the picture-perfect Káli Basin (Káli-medence). Once the summer crowds vanish, the area transforms into a peaceful paradise for anyone ready to get pedaling.
The Base: Comfort, Style, and a Little Luxury
The local guesthouse invites you for a cycling weekend with a touch of pampering. You’ll find double rooms and apartments, most with private terraces or enclosed gardens. Each space has its own bathroom, and there’s a flatscreen TV in every room. WiFi is free, and individually controlled air conditioning comes standard at no extra charge.
Pampering isn’t just for the road-weary. Between rides, unwind in the guesthouse’s jacuzzi or sweat it out in the sauna. Bringing a car or more than one bike? There’s a secure, camera-monitored onsite parking lot—free for guests. Even your four-legged companions are welcome (dogs are allowed in the Blue Pedal Boat Suite for a small fee).
Need a boost before your ride? Grab a Swedish-style breakfast, available for an additional fee. Not only can you set up base here worry-free, but you can also get your bikes sorted: the village center features a full-service workshop, spare parts shop, and rentals for both traditional and electric bikes. The harbor even offers a free 24/7 repair station with pump and basic tools—perfect for those emergency fixes.
The West: Volcanic Hills & Wineries
If you’re heading west, start with the Révfülöp–Badacsony–Szigliget loop (about 24 miles). This medium-level tour delivers breathtaking panoramas and, if you wish, a wine tasting along the way. For a bigger adventure, take on the 34-mile Révfülöp–Tapolca–Badacsony ride for city vibes and legendary volcanic hills. Prefer a slightly less traveled path? Try the 28-mile Káli Basin (Káli-medence) tour for culture, food, and peaceful backroads, passing through the Szentbékkálla Stone Sea (Szentbékkállai-kőtenger) and the legendary Sunday market in Káptalantóti.
Craving a challenge? The “Witness Mountain” (Tanúhegyek) 40–43 mile loop connects iconic volcanic hills and castles, while the 50-mile Grand Panorama tour combines the best of the region’s valleys, wine country, and lakefront cycling into a full-day adventure.
The East: Lake Views and Charming Villages
Ride the classic Lake Balaton (Balaton) circuit by heading east toward Balatonfüred and Tihany. The 37-mile round trip to Balatonfüred follows a fully developed lakefront bike path. Savor the lake breeze as you pass landmark sights like Tagore Promenade (Tagore sétány) and the historic port of Balatonfüred.
Want a bit more? Extend your trip to 46–47 miles by rolling on to Tihany and its historic Abbey (Tihanyi Bencés Apátság). Be prepared for a little climbing—the Tihany Peninsula (Tihanyi-félsziget) isn’t famous for being flat! Take in the views at Inner Lake (Belső-tó) and enjoy the lavender fields in season.
Longing for adventure? Try the big 56-mile loop. After cycling to Tihany, hop the ferry to Szántód, cruise a section of the southern shore, then ferry back and pedal home along the same northern route. For those after rolling hills and country roads, the 53-mile loop mixes lakeshore, the picturesque village of Vászoly, and rustic upland communities.
The North: Vineyard Valleys and Medieval Castles
Turn your wheels north for the Nivegy Valley (Nivegy-völgy) and Nagyvázsony. A 28-mile Nivegy Valley loop winds through wine villages, passing panoramic vineyard slopes and local cellars. The slightly longer 37–40 mile Nagyvázsony loop ups the effort with more hills and a stop at Kinizsi Castle (Kinizsi-vár), all wrapped in lush forests and rural charm.
For the full experience, try the epic 47–50 mile tour linking the Nivegy Valley, Nagyvázsony, Pécsely, Vászoly, and returning via Balatonakali. It’s a true Balaton sampler: vineyard tranquility, castle history, spring-fed streams, and a rewarding lakeside finish.
