Small Groups, Big Inspiration

Sessions are kept small so everyone gets attention. The atmosphere is supportive and judgment-free. Adults and school-age kids are welcome; younger children can join with parental supervision.

Location and Access

The workshop takes place indoors at the Page School (Apródképző) on the Puchner Estate in Bikal (7346, Rákóczi u. 22). Free parking is available at the Puchner Castle Hotel (Puchner Kastélyszálló) reception. Sign up by phone no later than 9:00 on the day of the event.

Participation fee: $72.90 per decoration. One creation can be made together by more than one person—hello, mother–daughter bonding—since the fee applies per finished piece, not per person.

Why Bikal?

At the foot of the Mecsek Mountains, the Puchner Estate sprawls across more than 34.6 acres of ancient trees and rolling valleys. Next door, the Adventure Estate (Élménybirtok) brings the Middle Ages to life. Hungry after crafting? Follow the aromas to the famed White Swan Inn (Fogadó a Fehér Hattyúhoz) by the swan lake near the Southern Gate, where medieval-style interiors and hearty dishes complete the escape.

The organizers reserve the right to change the dates and program.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with small groups and space for adults and school‑age kids, plus younger children can tag along with a parent
+
Easy creative win for beginners—expert guidance, premium materials, and you’ll finish a wreath or centerpiece in about an hour
+
Relaxed booking and pricing for families or couples since the fee is per finished piece, so you can co-create one item together
+
Scenic setting on the Puchner Estate near the Mecsek Mountains, with the medieval‑themed Adventure Estate and the White Swan Inn right next door for a full day out
+
Indoors and winter‑friendly with many January–February dates, so it’s a cozy activity during off-season travel
+
Free parking at the Puchner Castle Hotel and straightforward on‑site access once you’re there
+
Unique compared with typical U.S. craft workshops thanks to the castle‑estate atmosphere and medieval add‑ons, making it feel more like a destination experience than a class
Cons
Bikal and the Puchner Estate aren’t internationally famous, so U.S. visitors may not recognize the location or know what else to do nearby
Limited public transport appeal—reaching rural Baranya is easier by car; without one, planning and travel time can be a hassle
Likely some Hungarian needed for phone signup and on-site instructions; English may be available but isn’t guaranteed
The core activity (wreath/centerpiece making) is familiar in the U.S., so the craft itself may feel less novel compared to the setting
