A year of concerts, literary salons, memorials, markets, starry-night gatherings, and hometown festivals is lining up in Gyomaendrőd. From love letters set to piano to the smell of simmering fish soup by the Körös, the town’s 2026 program reads like a love note to culture, memory, and community.
February: Letters, Laughter, Remembrance
February opens on the 11th with Sealed Love, a musical-literary evening built from confessions, letter excerpts, and iconic songs about love. Writer and literary historian Krisztián Nyáry shares his years-long trove of love letters by Hungarian writers, poets, artists, and politicians, joined on stage by Erika Náray, with Tamás Berdisz on piano. On February 14, actress Andrea Balázs—billed as the actress of cheer, joie de vivre, and soul—meets audiences at OMart Bookstore and Cultural Workshop. Gyomaendrőd.
February 25 is dedicated to remembrance twice over. The Municipality of Gyomaendrőd invites residents to the Memorial Day of the Victims of the Communist Dictatorship at the municipal public cemetery (Gyoma). Later, author Lotti Budai presents a talk titled Sisi, Queen Victoria and Marie Antoinette, or Crowned Heads in the Nursery, centered on her work Micsoda anyák voltak! (What Mothers They Were!). On February 28 at 3 p.m., the town honors writer-poet István Csukás at 90 with a literary afternoon: Because It’s Good to Live With This Childlike Faith. Gyomaendrőd.
March: Theater, Market, Voices, and Water
March 4 brings the Déryné Company’s I Can’t Live Without Music (Nem élhetek muzsikaszó nélkül) to the Kállai Ferenc Integrated Cultural Institution and Community Center, with tickets listed from $0.56. Gyomaendrőd.
A nationwide animal and flea market pops up March 8. Gyomaendrőd.
On March 10, author and trainer Tünde Frankó introduces My Mother’s Tears (Anyám könnye), a chain of raw, personal stories about her grandmother, mother, and herself. With a background in healthcare and early childhood education, and two decades supporting people individually and in groups, she centers inherited family wounds—and how voicing them can free the next generation. The book is both confession and guide, urging us to speak pain, dissolve scars, and heal. Gyomaendrőd.

On March 23, The Book of Herbs – The Human Journey (Füves könyv – Az emberi utazás) distills Sándor Márai’s reflections on humanity, the self, and our place in the world. Curator Tibor Elek selects texts to match the theme; actor Zsolt Bogdán performs, set to Károly Binder’s music. Gyomaendrőd.
Water Day arrives in waves: March 27–28 opens “Dreaming of Waters…” National Youth Creative Competition with an exhibition launch and awards at the Vidovszky Béla City Gallery—continuing March 31–April 4 and again April 7–11 and April 14–17. Gyomaendrőd.

July 31–August 3, the 30th Gyomaendrőd Volkswagen Beetle and Bus Party rolls into the Liget Spa and Camping. Gyomaendrőd. August 7 is the 11th Night of Shooting Stars—on the meadow and on the water. Billed as Night of Wishes, the free program features meteor watching on the meadow with an outdoor film screening and a telescope for sky-gazing. September opens with the 10th Plum Jam Cooking Day on September 5 at St. Anthony People’s House (Szent Antal Népház), and a Late Summer Evening—musical program at Határ Győző City Library on September 8. On September 12, OMart opens an exhibition of etchings by Rózsa Bella and hosts the 10th Neighborhooding: The Late Descendant Sees Nothing… with Dr. Béla Kovács presenting Endrőd’s history.
