Wine, Food, and Local Delights
At the confluence of the Körös and Tisza (Körös and Tisza) rivers, family-run wineries welcome visitors with tradition and flavor. Seven hectares of organic grapes are turned into classic Csongrád (Csongrád) reds, sampled in a cozy, year-round tasting room. Here you’ll find homemade white, rosé, and red wines at cellar prices.
The Bohemian Café (Bohém Café) in the city center is the place to dine with a difference. Shaded by plane trees, its artistic décor, ambient lighting, attentive staff, and extensive menu of food and drinks make it a top choice. Book in advance for private events or celebrations.
The region is full of winemakers: one local cellar buys neighboring grapes for processing; another, in Bokros, Csongrád (Csongrád-Bokros), holds regular tastings and experiments with varieties like Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos), Portugieser (Kékoportó), Golden Sárfehér (Arany Sárfehér), and promising new Kadarka clones.
Dine under the thatched 120-seat terrace at the Garden Inn (Kert Vendéglő), or enjoy the air-conditioned 60-seat restaurant indoors. Host a party in the 110-seat conference hall, or let children play on the playground.
The Stone Inn (Kőcsárda) restaurant, in the Körös-Torok (Körös-Torok) holiday area, seats 80-100 on its atmospheric terrace and features a cozy bar.
Another winery boasts 45 hectares and 15 grape types, along with programs for kids, horse carriage rides, fishing, tastings, and even camping spots. Their vineyard school offers 50 grape varieties to choose from.
Leaving Csongrád (Csongrád), the Wanderer Farmhouse Restaurant (Vándor Tanya Étterem) on Route 451 serves hearty Hungarian classics made from grandma’s recipes, using fresh, local ingredients. The restaurant is family-friendly, seating 120 indoors and another 100 on the terrace. Jams, cheeses, compotes, and lavender treats are handcrafted here, and the guest rooms feature bathrooms and TVs for overnight stays.
