Pros
+
Great for families on a budget—kids can rummage for trinkets while adults browse antiques and retro finds
+
Easy Sunday plan: runs 5 a.m.–noon, so you can hit it early and still have the rest of the day free
+
Sustainability angle: secondhand treasures and local handmade goods feel good to buy
+
No need for deep local knowledge—flea markets are familiar, low-pressure, and fun to explore
+
Szombathely is a pleasant smaller Hungarian city near the Austrian border, so it pairs nicely with a Vienna/Graz/Balaton trip
+
Public transport within town is straightforward, and driving/parking to a market hall is typically manageable
+
Prices are usually much lower than U.S. flea markets or Western Europe, so bargain hunting can really pay off - Not a globally famous market—don’t expect the scale or hype of Paris’s Clignancourt or London’s Portobello
Cons
Limited English from some vendors; basic Hungarian phrases or pointing/cash haggling helps
Early start and Sunday-only window may be tough for families with young kids or jet lag
Compared with big-city European flea markets, selection is smaller and finds can be hit-or-miss
