On May 4, 18, and 25, “A Fényteremtő – zenés fénymágia” turns darkness and brilliance into a pulse-raising duel where time seems to stop. For the first time in Hungary, lighting designers build a world entirely from intelligent lamps and sound design, staging the eternal push-pull of good and evil. When one light dies, another flares up. That’s the cycle the show rides, whisking you into a place where imagination sets no limits.
Knights, Weapons, and Real Combat Craft
May 6 brings “Fegyverbemutató Tamás lovaggal,” a deep dive into the armory with a warrior famed for cunning and skill. He unpacks medieval weaponry, the how and why of swordplay, and the rules that defined chivalric combat. Ever wondered what a flail was for? Or a throwing dart, a cross-thrower, or a spike? Why armor changed shape over centuries—and which upgrades made a difference? How did one become a knight? There’s a thundering joust, fairytale theater, a massive playground, interactive games, and plenty of crafts. Visit master workshops to try old trades, learn techniques, and snap up handmade goods. Costumes from the Tailor’s Workshop (Szabóműhely) wardrobe can turn anyone into a princess, knight, noble, or even the jester. When hunger strikes, the White Swan Inn (Fehér Hattyú Fogadó) serves hearty plates and cold drinks. It’s the perfect one-day quest for the whole crew.
Sancho Steps Into the Spotlight
Also on May 9, “A fegyverhordozó – egy másik Don Quijote történet” flips the script on world literature’s favorite sidekick. Sancho Panza finally takes the mic, telling the tales with irony and bite through the powerhouse voice of István Orlik (Luke). He even complains to Cervantes himself and takes a bet: why must the supporting character (mellékszereplő) fade while everyone hails the windmill-charging knight? Sancho draws cheeky lines to modern duos—Holmes without Watson is a violin-playing narcissist with problems; Frodo overshadows Sam; Don Juan needs Sganarelle’s mirror. On May 16, “Vajákosság és boszorkányság Zinával – a jelen és múlt mágiája” opens the spellbook on medieval witches and healers—and hunts for their traces in modern life. Think sin warnings kept people in line back then? Not quite. Gossip and mouthing off at your lord-husband could be punished. Learn who the witches were, where the persecutions began, which charms still have a place, and whether incantations work. You’ll leave with a lifelong charm (bűbáj), plus plenty of laughs. A production by Ágens Ensemble (Ágens Társulat) and Bikal Live Theater (Bikali Élményszínház).
School Trip Mode: Full-Day Medieval Immersion
May 21, 22, 28, and 29 are engineered for class trips and group visits—with families welcome. The estate’s 18.5-acre grounds turn into an open quest. From 10:00 to 17:00, dip into interactive houses like the Magic Painter’s (Varázsfestő) studio, the smithy, and the Witch’s House (Boszorkányház); wander the Animal Yard (Állatudvar) to hear The Little Rooster’s Diamond Halfpenny (A kiskakas gyémánt félkrajcárja) and La Fontaine’s The Fox and the Crow (A róka és a holló). Crafts are everywhere: in Fairytale Village (Mesefalu), the Master Blacksmith (Kovácsmester) offers a bit of forging; the Page School (Apródképző) hosts budget-friendly craft stations; the Old Town workshops brim with caricature art, leatherwork, silversmithing, enamel and glass images, bookbinding, honey treats, Renaissance tailoring at the Tailor’s Workshop (Szabóműhely), and woodcarving tucked around a corner. The “Labyrinth” game sends you hunting medieval emblem cards across the estate. “Secret Signs, Puzzling Places” challenges you to crack a code with a treasure map—sign up at the Gingerbread Workshop (Mézeskalácsos). From 12:00 to 15:00, the White Swan Inn (Fehér Hattyú Fogadó) dishes out favorites, then at 14:00 comes Hansel and Gretel (Jancsi és Juliska), a musical take on the classic tale, followed by a 15:00 joust: real combat flair and a showy horse display.
