If you’re craving a getaway that combines music, movement, and the great outdoors, the twelfth annual “Opera House of Nature” (Természet Operaháza) at Lake Tisza (Tisza-tó) is your ticket to a soulful escape. This unique festival, blending the uplifting power of music with the rejuvenating energy of nature, returns August 1–3, 2025. Its simple yet powerful idea: get moving, immerse yourself in culture, and trade the couch potato lifestyle for an active, joy-filled atmosphere—for body and soul alike. Whether you want to cycle, run, or paddle for culture, this is a summer therapy session you can’t miss at the “Festival of Hungarian Lakes.”

Friday – Operatic Opening Under the Stars

Friday, August 1, kicks off with the To’Pera Gala Concert at the main square of Tiszafüred. Legendary Hungarian coloratura soprano Erika Miklósa—recipient of such high honors as the Order of Saint Stephen and the Kossuth Prize—headlines, accompanied by young talents from the Kvintessence Master School (Kvintesszencia Mesteriskola). Péter Novák, an actor and musician honored with the Jászai Mari Award, directs, and Bea Csete hosts. The show starts at 7:00 PM, and best of all: it’s free! Just bring your love for music (and maybe a folding chair).

Saturday – Cycle Around Lake Tisza… and Catch a Concert at Every Stop

Saturday, August 2, is for adventurers—grab your bike and join the 40-mile ride around Lake Tisza (Tisza-tó), starting at the Tiszafüred Bike Center. Register from 8:00–9:00 AM; depart at 9:00 AM. Tickets are about $16.20. It’s much more than a ride: every checkpoint is a musical pit stop.

At Delfin Port (Poroszló), accordion virtuoso Zoltán Orosz (Emerton and Artisjus award-winner) sets the tone. Adventure Village (Sarud) welcomes award-winning actor-singers Mátyás Dósa and Péter Harna. Tiszanána-Dinnyéshát offers the harmonies of Imre Vadkerti from the group Kormorán.

Lunch is a highlight at Fish Ladder (Hallépcső, Kisköre), serenaded by Fonogram Laureate Attila László and Silvia Agárdi (winner of the Golden Bell and Szenes Iván Prizes). Continue cycling to Abádszalók Beach for singer/songwriter/actress and “Glamour Singer of the Year” nominee Linda Király. At Tiszaderzs campsite, enjoy opera by Zoltán Nyári and folk harmonies from the Tavirózsa Choir (Tavirózsa Kórus). Tiszaszőlős hosts the Kurul Drummers, pounding out traditional rhythms, and finally, at Kormorán Port (Tiszaörvény), be amazed by the violin mastery of Antal Gábor Szűcs and Péter Gál. Return to the bike center just before 7:00 PM with music, scenery, and endorphins swirling.

Sunday – Family Picnic & Boating: All Ages Welcome

August 3 is more relaxed, with a Family Lake Picnic and Boating Day at Fish Ladder (Hallépcső, Kisköre). The spectacular natural setting and the tempting food at Lépcső Bistro are reason enough to attend.

Watch a rafting demonstration by the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Federation, browse local handicrafts, or introduce your kids to fishing—thanks to the national anglers’ association (MOHOSZ) kids’ angling program. Four-legged friends are in the spotlight with a Unidog dog training showcase, while children can enjoy carriage rides, inflatables, and a carefree festival atmosphere.

Music continues with lively concerts featuring Mátyás Dósa, Junior Prima-winning actress Nikolett Molnár, acclaimed actor Géza Egyházi, and Andrea Mahó (triple-awarded in theater and voice), plus icons of Hungary’s jazz and blues scene: Norbert Nikodém, László Halper, Péter Román, and János Sramkó. The band Alma Ensemble (Alma Együttes), famous for their multigenerational kids’ shows, ensures even the youngest are entertained. Bea Csete returns as host. Once again, attendance is absolutely free.

Lodging – From Floating Cabins to Cozy Guesthouses

Lake Tisza’s hidden world is serene and magical. Kormorán Port (Kormorán Kikötő), a step from the living Tisza River, entices with floating houses, stilt buildings, and treetop cabins—so you can sleep on water, land, or among the branches. Dieter’s Camping lies just across from the beach and thermal bath, catering to loyal regulars. Expect spotless facilities and a fresh kitchen.

There’s no shortage of family-friendly options. Waterfront apartments (over 900 square feet) sleep 4–6, providing air conditioning, Wi-Fi, hotel TV, a private terrace, and soaking tubs—the works, perfect for large families or groups. Non-smoking, of course.

The Tisza Balneum Hotel, an eco-conscious four-star spa right on the lake, is ideal if you want relaxation, wellness treatments, or private conference spaces.

Guesthouses like Csuszka and Ladik (500 meters from the marina) offer self-catering privacy for families or groups of friends (6–9 guests). Szabics Camping hosts up to 150 with your tent or caravan—complete with washing-up area, fire pits, and both hot and cold showers. Albatrosz Harbor (Albatrosz Kikötő) combines a 21,500-square-foot campsite, a private beach, and water-sports gear rental. There are also Boró and Diófa apartments near the lively yet peaceful center of Tiszafüred.

Dining – Flavors of The Lake

Food lovers won’t be disappointed. Platán Restaurant (Platán Étterem) serves both international and Hungarian specialties, paired with wines from the famous Tokaj region and lakeside sunset views. Molnár Inn (Molnár Vendéglő) offers regional favorites at wallet-friendly prices right in the tiny town’s heart. NOPARA GyógySERtár is your place if you crave craft beer, bar food, good coffee, or just need an apartment with breakfast.

You’ll find hearty, satisfying meals year-round—even hidden spots offering recipes from traditional fishermen’s cookbooks. Whether you want upscale or country comfort, Tiszafüred delivers.

Nature, Peace, and a Little Disclaimer

Lake Tisza (Tisza-tó) sits on the edge of Hortobágy National Park (Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park), surrounded by endless plains, quiet trails, and abundant birdlife. Many restaurants and guesthouses feature large gardens or covered terraces, so you can soak in the peaceful landscape alongside your goulash or fish stew.

All programs, dates, and artists are subject to change, so keep an eye on the final schedule. Ready to trade stress for song and scenery? See you (and your bike) at Lake Tisza next August!
