A relaxed St. Martin’s Day goose feast arrives in Zánka on Lake Balaton’s north shore, with cozy stays, local wines, and modern bites in a famously calm setting just steps from the water.
Houses and apartments around town promise quiet, greenery, and sweeping views of Lake Balaton. One holiday home sleeps 4–10 and sits 600 meters from the beach, with a large yard, garden furniture, a grill, and secure parking. Another has two apartments with separate entrances, ideal for families or groups, both overlooking the lake. There’s also a neatly furnished apartment for 2–6 with a panoramic view, and a guesthouse with three apartments hosting up to 10, bookable together or separately.
Family Stays and Fig Garden Vibes
Fig Garden (Fügekert), at the gateway to the Káli Basin in central Zánka, is a family-run stay designed for kids and grown-ups alike. Mornings start with handcrafted breakfasts using products from local producers; evenings roll into tastings on the terrace with the Káli Basin’s finest wines, artisanal syrups, and plenty of small delights. The holiday homes across Zánka embrace that same calm, giving families and friend groups a breezy, comfortable base for the feast.
Wine Cellars, Loungers, and Six House Wines
One Zánka lodging sits just 820 feet from the beach, offering four rooms for up to 12 guests. Beneath the comfy rooms is a cellar showcasing six of the house’s own wines, with shade trees in the garden and loungers perfect for sipping and dozing. Léda Holiday House (Léda Nyaralóház) keeps things peaceful too, roughly 0.62 miles from the lake—close enough for a stroll.
Modern Bistro, Vegan Hits, and Yes, Duck Liver
A modern European bistro highlights gluten- and dairy-sensitive options year-round, plus vegetarian and vegan dishes. The drinks lean hard into Hungarian gin and quality Champagne selections. Alongside vegan plates, two stars keep drawing raves: duck liver with salty strawberry, and an oversized túrógombóc (cottage cheese dumpling). You don’t have to stay at Zen Garden Resort to get a table—drop in anytime.
Cellar Doors and Seasonal Plates
Lídia Wine House (Lídia Borház) pours its own estate wines in a cozy cellar and vinotheque, selling by the barrel or bottle, including online. Traditional methods meet modern techniques, with more and more bottles hitting the shelf. Across town, lunch and dinner go seasonal: fresh dishes made from Balaton Uplands producers, craft wines, homemade syrups, and other good stuff.
