A winter weekend in Matyóföld, wrapped in sizzling flavors, clinking glasses, and live tunes: the Hajnal Hotel in Mezőkövesd is reviving the classic Hungarian pig-slaughter feast (disznótor) from January through April and again in October–December 2026. Think juicy hurka, crispy kolbász, rich roasts, and true country hospitality—plus a spa to sink into after the feast. The program is a full buffet affair with live music and can only go ahead with a minimum of 40 guests.
Dates and the Place to Be
The event takes place at 3400 Mezőkövesd, Hajnal St. 2 (Hajnal u. 2). Winter–spring weekends: January 9–11, 23–25, 30–February 1; February 6–8, 13–15, 20–22, 27–March 1; March 6–8, 13–15, 20–22, 27–29; April 10–12, 17–19, 24–26. Autumn–winter weekends: October 16–18, 30–November 1; November 6–8, 13–15, 20–22, 27–29; December 4–6, 11–13, 18–20.
Friday: Warm Welcome, Full Tables
Arrivals slide straight into a buffet dinner with live music. It’s an easy glide into the weekend’s rhythm: plentiful plates, friendly faces, and a soundtrack made for clinking glasses and swapping stories.
Saturday: The Pork Feast Day
The day kicks off in full disznótor style. Between 7:00 and 9:00 at reception, every guest gets one pálinka and one cup of mulled wine. Breakfast follows buffet-style from 7:00 to 10:00. Lunch turns up the tradition with a hearty spread: pork backbone soup with thin noodles and vegetables, toros cabbage, roast meats with potatoes, and fresh strudel.
Evening brings the showstopper: a live-music Pork Feast dinner, buffet and abundant. On the tables: soups; roasted meats and ribs; hurka and kolbász; mashed potatoes with onions; stuffed cabbage; and desserts including mézes krémes and pudding. It’s communal, loud in the best way, and unmistakably Hungarian.
Sunday: Farewell With Crunch
One last buffet breakfast closes the circle—think cracklings and bacon—sending everyone home with a satisfied grin and a suitcase that somehow smells like winter kitchens and wood smoke.
Wellness and Why It’s More Than a Meal
