Short talks spark discussions where everyone chimes in with opinions. We aim to rethink local history by involving enthusiasts. Love history or just dipping your toes? Restarting on March 27, then April 10 and 24, May 8 and 22, June 12 and 26: the “Friday Evening ‘Do You Know?'” (“Péntek esti tudod-e?”) quiz series returns! Teams of at least three pit their knowledge against each other at the castle every two weeks, covering rotating topics. Regulars rack up points on a leaderboard for the ultimate champion; one-time visitors get per-night winners. Free entry for kids and adults alike—bring your brain!

Pros
+

+
The variety of activities from history lectures and quizzes to scenic runs and tours gives you a mix of chill and active fun in a real castle setting
+
Permanent exhibitions like the Local History House pack in cool stories from WWII to local artists, making it easy to dive into Hungary's past without needing a guide
+
Outdoor events like the Sió Hegyhát Tour and Castle to Castle Run let you explore the beautiful Transdanubian Hills on foot, way more immersive than typical tourist traps
+
Castle history and culture are pretty well-known internationally, so it feels familiar yet authentic compared to blockbuster sites
+
Most stuff is free or cheap, and open Tue-Sun with decent hours, perfect for squeezing into a Hungary road trip
+
No Hungarian skills needed for exhibitions, tours, or runs – visuals and actions carry the day for English speakers
Cons
Simontornya is a hidden gem village, barely on the radar for foreign visitors who stick to Budapest or Lake Balaton
Getting there by public transport from Budapest means a train to Szekszard then bus, or rent a car for ease – not a quick hop
Lectures and trivia are in Hungarian, so you'll miss the chats and competition without some language basics or a buddy
Smaller scale than epic castle fests in the UK like Edinburgh or Germany's medieval markets, more local vibe than international blockbuster
