On October 18, explore the breathtaking Síkhegy (Low Hill) vineyards of Eger during the second annual “Bikavér Vineyard Tour.” Lace up your boots for this guided journey, which begins at 10:30 AM from the cellar on Kistályai Road and meanders through the scenic Almagyar Vineyard (Almagyar dűlő) all the way to Síkhegy. This is not just a hike—it’s a deep dive into the stories behind Bikavér, Eger’s iconic blended red wine, as you taste wines born just steps from where you’ll be standing.
Walking Among the Vines
The tour, priced at $39 per person, includes everything: a glass of Egri Csillag 2024 (the white counterpart of Egri Bikavér) as a welcome drink, a cellar visit led by István Polyák, and a guided walk (or a minibus ride, if you prefer) through the gorgeous, color-shifting autumn vineyards.
Tasting, Hiking, and Local Treats
The first stop at Almagyar Vineyard (Almagyar dűlő) features barrel samples of Rozé 2025 and Kadarka Siller 2025, with savory ash-baked scones and mineral water to fuel your walk. At Síkhegy (Low Hill), you’ll sample Egri Bikavér 2022 and its superior cousin from 2021. The day wraps up under the Old Poplar Tree with hearty beef goulash, sourdough bread, homemade strudel, and the debut of Várvédő Egri Bikavér Grand Superior 2022. Shuttle service will comfortably take you back after this autumn celebration.
