Autumn in Tata means just one thing—fish, food, and fun on the shores of the Old Lake (Öreg-tó). The Old Lake Fisherman and Fish Gastronomy Festival (Öreg-tavi Halász és Halgasztro Fesztivál) returns from October 24–26, 2025, around the grand Esterházy Castle (Esterházy-kastély) area. Entry is free, and this isn’t just any food fest—it’s Hungary’s most exciting fish event.
Spectacular Lake Show and Old Traditions
The festival highlights nearly two decades of Tata’s fish-farming traditions. The main event is the Saturday morning spectacle: live, traditional fishing on the lake. Watch as local experts haul in the catch using age-old gear, and get an up-close look at how fish have been caught here for generations.
A Culinary Splash by the Lake
Foodies will love the endless variety: master chefs serve up legendary fish soup (halászlé), fried fish, and other lakeside delicacies. Fresh, fruity Neszmély (Neszmély) wines flow freely alongside these dishes. Want to take the taste home? There’s a bustling fish market on site.
Fun for Everyone
It’s not just about the food—music, concerts, cultural shows, outdoor entertainment, games for kids, a colorful marketplace, and even a cheerful amusement park make sure no one gets bored. The lineup runs all three days, making it the kind of festival where everyone can find something to love.
The organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs—so be ready for surprises!
