Tapolca’s revamped market and Market Hall are back with color, crowds, and a full slate of community programs, welcoming shoppers and partners year-round. Market days run every Tuesday and Friday from 6:00 to 12:00, while the permanent shops inside the hall are open Monday through Saturday, keeping the city’s morning rhythm alive with produce, crafts, and everyday essentials.
Opening Hours
Shops and hall: Monday–Friday 6:00–17:00, Saturday 8:00–12:00. Market days: Tuesday and Friday 6:00–12:00. Local producers’ market: every Saturday 7:00–13:00. The calendar already includes 2026.01.06 and 2026.01.09 in Tapolca, with vendors and community stalls lining up early, rain or shine.
History Meets Handwork
An 18th-century listed manor anchors the area with its granary, farm buildings, and servants’ house, framed by a large garden and a small lake. Renovation blends professional trades with volunteers: in exchange for help that doesn’t require specialist skills, organizers provide lodging and meals. The motto is simple: pace the work to the day, with balance and good sense. Lake Balaton, the Bakony Hills, and local wine are the backdrop. If you just want to stay without pitching in, accommodation is available, but you’ll need to chip in for meals. Tasks are announced as they come; the granary is finished.
Stays by the Water
On the shore of the Mill Pond, a former watermill turned boutique hotel hosts up to 48 guests and handles family or corporate events from planning to execution. It offers a calm waterside retreat right in town, with spaces tailored for intimate gatherings or full-house celebrations.
Pelion: Cave Air, City Center
Hunguest Hotel Pelion sits in the city center inside a 9.88-acre park, directly above the therapeutic cave, reachable through a covered corridor from the hotel. The karst cave beneath has a special microclimate with recognized healing effects, easing respiratory illnesses, asthma, and allergies for decades. Quiet, dusk-like light and mineral-rich cave air combine into a soothing therapy.
Apartments and Guesthouses
A tastefully furnished apartment house in western Tapolca, at 15 Tavasz Street, offers four apartments and five rooms. Mónika Guesthouse, near downtown in a peaceful setting, includes a three-room suite with a large living room, kitchenette, and two bathrooms, two twin rooms, and a separate apartment—accommodating 12+3 guests comfortably.
Sweet Dreams, Real Cream
Childhood cravings get their due: whipped cream, birthday cakes, churned ice cream, and homemade strudel, all under shady trees at Borostyán.
Wine, Animals, Panorama
A family organic estate in the Badacsony wine region has crafted natural, high-quality wines for over 20 years. The new wine terrace comes with sweeping views. Uniquely, viticulture meets animal husbandry here—guests can meet the livestock. For full estate tours with tastings, book ahead.
Pizza, Kitchens, Banquets
Drop into La Pergola Pizzeria in Tapolca for Hungarian comfort food, international flavors, and classic Italian pastas. The wood-fired oven turns out 60 specialty pizzas. Garden seating and private rooms host groups and events. At Hunguest Hotel Pelion, the Orchidea Restaurant—under a wooden dome with 300 seats—rolls out weekly culinary specials from its seasoned head chef, making it a favorite for both locals and regulars. Next to the Lake Cave (Tapolcai-tavasbarlang), an imposing, guest-friendly restaurant bridges Hungarian staples with global gastronomy.
Beer Firsts and Lakefront Plates
The Balaton Uplands’ first brewery, Stari, has brewed premium craft beers for nearly 30 years: classic pale, dark, wheat, red ale, and trendy IPAs, plus 30% real-fruit beers—tart sour cherry, sweet strawberry, dusky plum, tangy blackcurrant, and orange–grapefruit aged on a wheat base. For non-drinkers, Stari 0.0 offers a real beer experience without the alcohol. By the Tapolca lakeside, Tópart Restaurant serves family-friendly vibes, lovely views, and reliably good food and drinks.
