when: 2025.12.28., Sunday - 2026.01.04., Sunday
where: 8264 Szigliget, Kisfaludy u. 30.

Sanyi, Én és a Gyerekek roll into Szigliget’s Várudvar this winter break with laugh-out-loud, interactive folk tales for preschoolers and early elementary kids—and yes, grandparents will giggle too. Shows play in the Várvendéglő ballroom at 8264, 30 Kisfaludy St. (Kisfaludy u. 30.), right next to the ice rink, from Sunday, December 28, 2025, to Sunday, January 4, 2026. Expect puppets, wooden spoon characters, rhythm games, dancing, songs, and plenty of audience ideas folded straight into the story. No two performances are the same; the magic is in the moment.

“A kerek kő” (The Round Stone)

A poor fisherman brings home not fish but one big round stone to his hungry family—and somehow everything turns out right, even with his greedy brother. An interactive Hungarian folk tale with songs, spoon puppets, rhythm play, dance, and laughter. Dates: 2025-12-28 at 17:00; 2026-01-01 at 11:00; 2026-01-02 at 17:00; 2026-01-03 at 11:00.

“A só” (Salt)

Sometimes we act before counting to ten. Luckily, good people help set things straight—onstage and off. A beloved Hungarian folk tale reimagined with lots of shared games for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Dates: 2025-12-28 at 11:00; 2025-12-30 at 17:00; 2025-12-31 at 11:00; 2026-01-04 at 17:00.

“A sündisznó” (The Hedgehog)

The shopkeeper, the king, and a poor man all get lost in the forest; someone leads them out—but not for free. Bursting with fun, a giant baker’s peel, a pancake pan, sack puppets, and brave child performers. For ages 3–9. Dates: 2025-12-29 at 11:00; 2025-12-31 at 17:00; 2026-01-03 at 17:00; 2026-01-04 at 11:00.

All shows run 50 minutes without intermission. Location: Szigliget. Organizers reserve the right to change times and programs.

Pros
+
Great for kids 3–9 and multigenerational trips—puppets, songs, dancing, and audience participation keep little ones engaged while grandparents get the jokes too
+
Short 50‑minute runtime with multiple showtimes across the week makes it easy to pair with the adjacent ice rink for a full winter day out
+
Unique peek into Hungarian folk tales (A kerek kő, A só, A sündisznó), so you get culture plus play, not just generic kids’ theater
+
Szigliget’s Várudvar setting is cozy and atmospheric, and the ballroom venue gives you a warm indoor option during a cold-weather vacation
+
Easy to combine with Lake Balaton winter sightseeing; driving from Budapest is straightforward in good weather (about 2–2.5 hours), with ample local parking in the village
+
Public transport is doable: trains or buses to Badacsony/Keszthely + local bus/taxi to Szigliget; winter schedules run, just plan ahead for connections
+
Compared with kids’ theater abroad, the interactive, improvised vibe feels more hands-on and less scripted than many museum or library shows in the U.S.
Cons
Shows are in Hungarian; non‑Hungarian speakers will follow the action but miss wordplay and some humor unless an adult can translate on the fly
Szigliget is less internationally known than Budapest or Hévíz, so first-time visitors may need extra planning for lodging, dining hours, and winter openings
Winter driving around Lake Balaton can be icy or foggy; if you rely on public transport, evening returns have fewer options
If you’re expecting flashy production values, this is intentionally low-tech (wooden spoons, sack puppets), which may feel modest compared with big-city holiday shows in other countries
