when: 2025.12.27., Saturday
where: 2025 Visegrád, Vár

Every Saturday, Visegrád throws it back to the 14th century with a live knight tournament at the Solomon Tower (Salamon torony) and a lavish royal feast at the Renaissance Restaurant. The Saint George Knightly Order stages a spirited contest, just like warriors once fought for the king’s and queen’s favor in medieval Visegrád. To kick things off, the knights pick a king and queen from the audience, dress them in royal cloaks, and crown them on the spot.

At the king’s call, the knights march in and show off their aim and dueling skills with authentic medieval weapons, performing for the royal couple and their guests. The bouts are realistic, thrilling, and often laced with humor, celebrating the bravery and audacity of medieval knights. A royal hunting hawk also takes flight during the show, adding to the spectacle. At the end, guests can handle and try out the period weapons with guidance from the knights.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with audience participation, kid-safe humor, and a hawk demo that wows both children and adults
+
Affordable by U.S. standards, with kid discounts and free under‑3s, so it’s a good value day out
+
Hands‑on fun: you can handle replica medieval weapons under supervision, which is rare at similar shows
+
Clear, timed schedule makes it easy to plan your day trip from Budapest
+
Easy add‑on feast with hearty, local flavors—great sampler of Hungarian comfort food
+
The Solomon Tower setting gives real medieval atmosphere and views, not a theme‑park backdrop
+
Visegrád is a popular Danube Bend stop, so you can pair the show with a castle visit or river views
Cons
Not a globally famous event, so set expectations closer to a lively local show than a large-scale reenactment spectacle
Limited English info on-site possible; you’ll enjoy it without Hungarian, but jokes and narration may land better if you understand some phrases
Reaching Visegrád needs a bit of planning: boat/bus combos are scenic but slower; driving is easiest, parking can be tight in peak season
Compared to medieval dinners in Prague or castle shows in the UK/Spain, production scale is smaller, though the price is also friendlier
