Quarry District (Kőbánya) Underground returns February 24–March 1 with a weeklong Light, Sound, and Space Festival buried beneath Budapest’s surface. Curated by Irregulari, the massive cellar network bursts with site-specific installations, guided tours, performances, and themed nights that transform the endless tunnels into a sensory labyrinth for seven straight days.
Art Schools Go Subterranean
Students and faculty from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts dive back in, joined this year by the University of Pécs (Pécsi Tudományegyetem) and a wave of international artists. Together, they continue driving the cultural revitalization of the historic wine-and-stone vaults, treating the underground as both gallery and instrument.
What’s Inside the Maze
Expect lightscapes mapped onto walls and arches, sound pieces tuned to echoing chambers, and performances that bend the geometry of the space. Guided routes thread through the safer corridors, while evening programs shift the atmosphere from meditative to club-like. It’s a city-sized basement turned living artwork—for one intense week only.
