A courteous English couple, Peter and Debbie, befriend an American widow, Elsa, on a cruise. They swap addresses and promise to visit—the kind of vow that usually fades. Not this time. One day Elsa rings their doorbell. By then, the couple has read alarming things about her online, panic sets in, and they’re wary of letting her near their two teens. They don’t want to offend her, either. Cue a cascade of riotous misunderstandings, further tangled by a know-it-all neighbor and a police sergeant. After a London West End run and a Budapest premiere, Rém rendes vendég hits the Újszegedi Open-Air Stage (Újszegedi Szabadtéri Színpad) with the Játékszín troupe.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with a clean, witty farce and an intermission that’s easy on teens and parents
+
English-centric plot with American and British characters makes the humor relatable for U.S. visitors
+
The play has West End cred, so the subject and style are internationally familiar
+
Budapest’s Teréz körút location is central and well-known to tourists
+
Tickets around $35 are great value compared to U.S. theater prices
+
Easy access by public transit (metro/tram on the körút) or rideshare; driving/parking possible but not essential
+
Short runtime (2h15 with intermission) fits a sightseeing-heavy day
- Title and most staging are in Hungarian; non-Hungarian speakers may miss jokes unless supertitled
Cons
–
While Budapest is famous, this specific venue/troupe isn’t a marquee name for foreign visitors
–
Early-January dates are limited and subject to change, tricky for tight itineraries
–
As a straight play (not musical), it may feel less “spectacle” than big shows tourists see in London or NYC
